Which of Rhinoplasty or Nose Threadlift is Better? Let’s Dissect the Pros and Cons of Each Procedure

0

One of the most common cosmetic problems that people have fixed is their nose. For years, people have sought a solution to improve the appearance of their noses and ever since rhinoplasty was invented, more and more people have had their confidence and appearance improve when they had their noses altered.

Rhinoplasty or Nose Surgery

Probably the most popular way to modify the nose’s appearance is through nose surgery or rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty uses surgical techniques to create precise incisions on the nose to achieve the patient’s desired look. It’s a delicate procedure that requires the help of an experienced cosmetic surgeon to be able to get the desired results.

Thanks to the popularity of the procedure, the risks associated with it have been minimized compared to when it was first performed. However, even with the surgery becoming safer than before, there are still people who want to avoid invasive procedures like rhinoplasty. Thankfully, there is an alternative to it that carries less risk of complications than surgery.

Nose Threadlift

A nose threadlift is a noninvasive alternative to nose surgery that involves the use of special threads made of polydioxanone (PDO). These PDO threads are injected into the nose on specific areas like the nose bridge and tip, which then stimulates the production of collagen, a protein that tightens and strengthens the skin. The threads also “lifts” the nose bridge and tip so that they look much more attractive compared to before.

Which procedure should you get?

Both procedures have their own advantages and disadvantages over the other one. Before you decide on which procedure to undergo, it is best that you weigh the two options and choose the one that best suits your expectations.

Let’s look at certain aspects of each procedure and determine how the procedures compare with each other.

Costs

One of the most important things to consider before you commit to a certain cosmetic procedure is its cost. In this area, a rhinoplasty is significantly more expensive than a nose threadlift. However, if you are looking at long-term costs, the two procedures are not that different in cost.

One thing you should keep in mind is that a rhinoplasty is a one-time procedure. This means that you only need to undergo nose surgery once and you can already achieve your desired results, as long as no complications occur. Thus, even if a single rhinoplasty can cost around S$2,500 to S$25,000, you only need to undergo it once.

A nose threadlift on the other hand costs around S$700 to S$2,000 per session. However, to achieve the desired results, a person may need to undergo multiple sessions, which in total can cost up to S$20,000.

Procedure

In a rhinoplasty, the surgeon will make multiple precise incisions on your nose depending on the complexity of the procedure. Due to this, the patient will be placed on either local or general anesthesia, which means that the patient should feel little to no pain or discomfort. The whole surgery lasts for about 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity.

For a nose threadlift, however, it only involves the injection of PDO threads through specific areas of the nose. This requires a degree of precision to ensure that the effect of each thread is evenly balanced. The patient will usually only be put under local anesthesia, and the whole procedure will take just around 30 to 45 minutes.

Risks of Complications

Since a rhinoplasty is a lot more invasive compared to a nose threadlift, it also carries more risks of complications, such as:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Scarring
  • Numbness around your nose
  • Swelling, redness and discoloration on the nose

However, thanks to modern technology, rhinoplasty has become a much safer procedure as long as proper preparations are done beforehand. On the other hand, a nose threadlift has minimal risk of developing complications, as it is a minimally invasive procedure.

Recovery

A rhinoplasty will require you to take some time off to let your body rest after the surgery. Besides the fact that you may be too weak to do anything, your nose will be recovering and anything that may hinder your rest may affect the results of the surgery.

Nose surgery will typically take around two to four weeks for recovery, so make sure that you’ve informed your company that you will need to take time off work to rest. During the recovery period, monitor your nose for any side effects that may occur, such as swelling or numbness. Talk to your doctor if you need advice on how to deal with these side effects.

For a nose threadlift, recovery is very quick. In fact, it is sometimes called a lunch break nose job since many patients can get the procedure during the lunch break and can be back to work immediately after. There’s no need to take time off unless your doctor recommends it.

A nose threadlift also has fewer side effects as it is a less invasive procedure. There may be a chance of scarring and numbness, but these side effects usually disappear within the next hour or two.

Results

Here is where a rhinoplasty outshines a nose threadlift. Typically, the results of a nose surgery are much better and last longer compared to the results of a nose threadlift. For one, surgery makes some permanent changes to your nose, whereas a threadlift can only achieve temporary results.

The results of a rhinoplasty will take some time to show, however, as your nose will go through the body’s natural healing processes. However, the results are permanent and you won’t have to undergo the surgery again barring the risk of complications.

Which one is best for you?

Ultimately, it is up to you to decide which procedure is best for you. Be upfront with your surgeon with what you want to achieve so that he/she can recommend a procedure that suits your expectations. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you feel the need to.
